What we believe

We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative word revealing that Jesus Christ is God’s Son; that man is created in God’s image; that God created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all men have sinned and come short of God’s glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us; that God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, and that the Holy Spirit’s power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishment of Christ’s last commandment, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”  (Mark 16:15)

Honoring through the personal ministry of God:  Excelling Leaders believes in excellence in our programs and training of our team but we believe that the foundation of any healing only comes through the ministry of the Holy Spirit as he enlightens our past and gives healing and direction into the future.

Honoring the individual:  Excelling Leaders affirms that we are all unique individuals with unique stories that need to be shared, processed and healed. In all debriefs, both individual and small group retreats, the main focus is helping to process personal stories. 

Honoring cultures:  Excelling Leaders exists to work with missionary families who come from many different parts of the world, with different cultural values, ages, gifting and personalities. Excelling Leaders believes God has called us to a special target group: mission workers who are from, live and work in the majority world.

Honoring the family:  Excelling Leaders believe that God calls families into missions. We understand that families experience unique challenges as well as blessings. We believe that Excelling Leaders is called to create places and programs that are focused on families.

Honoring by practicing privacy and confidentiality and safety:  Excelling Leaders understands that safety is essential in telling our story and taking steps forward, especially when it relates to working with families with children. Confidentiality and child safety standards are not only mandated legally and ethically but are also part of the character of God and are one of Excelling Leaders core values. Safety means not only safety for one’s physical self, but is also meant in a relational, emotional, and spiritual sense. No one can honestly and carefully examine where and why it hurts without first feeling safe.

Honoring by focusing on resilience:  We all walk through situations, transitions and seasons of intense battle which the enemy seeks to use to destroy and distort the voice of God. Excelling Leaders seeks to equip our missionaries and their families with tools to help them be more resilient in their personal life. This involves emotional, physical, spiritual, occupational, relational and intellectual wellness.

Honoring through hospitality:  Excelling Leaders affirms the ministry of hospitality as an expression of God’s character and the value of people. We believe it is important to create and maintain welcoming and safe places where missionaries and missionary families are honored and can meet with God to process the past and to be equipped to move into the future.

Honoring through communication:  Excelling Leaders affirms that everything exists because God communicates. Therefore, Excelling Leaders is committed to truthful, accurate, timely and relevant communication. We believe good communication is essential for strong relationships, healthy families and communities, and effective ministry.

Honoring by seeking excellence:  Excelling Leaders believes that God creates and sustains with excellence. Gen 1:31 “Then God looked over all that he had made and he saw that it was excellent in every way.” Excelling Leaders is committed to having all of our team well trained so that we are offering relevant and excellent care, coaching and training.

Honoring by practicing dependence on God:  Excelling Leaders is called to practice a life of dependence upon God for financial provision. Individually and corporately this comes primarily through His people. As God has been generous toward us, so our Excelling Leaders team members also practice generosity and giving in our daily lives.

​Honoring by acting on the voice of God:  Excelling Leaders is committed to creating with God through listening to Him, praying His prayers, and obeying His commands in matters great and small. We are dependent upon hearing His voice as individuals, together in team contexts, and in larger corporate gatherings as an integral part of our process for decision making.
